The intervention originated from the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa´s need to bring the acoustic behaviour closer between the Main Auditorium of the Euskalduna Palace and the Orchestra Rehearsal Room, located onthe fifth floor of the building.
Objectives: to provide the room with a les warm and brighter acoustic response and with a longer reverberation time at high frequencies. In addition, provide the room with a renewed spatial quality and finishes.
A large acoustic shell shapde as a polygonal half dome allows us to achieve the objectives.
The need to combine the execution of the project with the inflexible rehearsal schedule of the orchestra and a very limited economic investment, have absolutely conditioned the intervention.
It is planned to reuse the pre-existing wooden trays, arranging them with dark grooves to enhance the directionality of the room both spatially and acoustically. The ceiling is suspended from a prefabricated metal substructure pieces as a “mechano”.
